Interview with North London Lockdown

In May 2020, we spoke to North London Lockdown about launching a platform to support local artists while the country was in quarantine... this is how we did it!

"I work at the Royal Academy of Arts but was put on furlough back in March when we had to close our doors to the public.

After 3 weeks of moping around and doing nothing I thought I’d better start being more productive with my time. I decided to pick up a project I had worked on last year as part of my Masters in Arts Business at Central Saint Martins; an online arts sales platform that connected customers looking to discover and buy affordable art, to artists working in their local area.

I began reaching out to artists based near me in Tottenham, and it became clear the lockdown had put them all in a very difficult situation, with all planned exhibitions, galleries, art fairs and events having been cancelled or postponed. Some artists didn’t even have access to their studios L I worked with them to launch Zone Arts on Instagram so that we could offer local artists a platform for exposure and to make sales while everything else is at a stand still.

We’ve got around 30 artists from across Tottenham involved, and will be sharing a new work of art for sale each day. Art work is priced from £20-£1000 and includes painting, photography, prints, ceramics and sculptures, so there’s something for everyone! A website will follow soon…

Its been such fun meeting artists from across the area, there’s so much talent in Tottenham and I can’t wait to share what we’ve got on offer."
