North London based Maria Nimmo is a painter, sculptor and installation artist, as well as a teacher of art at the London Academy of Excellence in Tottenham. She graduated with a MA in Fine Art from the Chelsea College of Art.
Recent paintings have been inspired by the canal systems that flow throughout Tottenham, capturing this low lying urban landscape and monitoring the shifts of colours and light that provide an escape from the busyness of urban life.
In her installations, Marina creates temporary, fleeting and consciously precarious environments, constructed from clay, everyday objects and household detritus. Her scultures embody the shapes of our daily shifting cycles. The ebb and flow of the River Thames, that provides this city with so much energy, has played a key role in the development of these works.
