Ruth Batham
Tottenham based artist Ruth Batham is currently enrolled at Turps Art School as an offsite painter. After growing up in the Black Country, she moved to London to study at Wimbledon School of Art and subsequently UCL.
A background in the Sciences influences her subject matter today; she draws upon research in Medical Anthropology and Anatomy. Working across a range of mediums, Ruth explores human interaction: the difficulties in social communication and invisible rules and routines played out in society. She uses layering as a key process to explore norms of human conversation.
She has exhibited in group shows in London and had her first solo show in May 2019, which centered around fragmenting human figures. Her work is held in private collections.
Alongside her own practise, Ruth also teaches experimental drawing and provides art consultancy to primary schools. She believes passionately in high quality art education for all.
